Things are not going so well for Samsung in Russia, as it has recently become known that the country's judicial authorities have proceeded to ban on the sale of 61 smartphones of the Korean company.
ΑThe cause of the above event was the patent infringement related to or supporting the Samsung Pay.
So, the Russian courts ruled that Samsung should stopped imports and sales of up to 61 models of its smartphones that support the Samsung Pay service, including the top models in the series Galaxy Z Fold3 and Z Flip3.
The imposition of this ban is due to allegations that Samsung Pay infringes a payment company patent Sqwin Sa.
The problem dates back to 2013 when Victor Gulchenko filed a patent for an electronic trading system, which was registered in April 2019 and granted to Sqwin Sa. The Samsung Pay was introduced in 2015 and arrived in Russia a year later in 2016.
Today this Samsung Pay is considered the third most widely known contactless payment system in Russia representing in the total transactions the 17%, after the Apple Pay (30%) and Google Pay (32%).
According to legal experts, the last two services may also have infringed the same patent Sqwin Sa.
