Η Xiaomi responded today to the incident, explaining that it was due to a previous failure of the device, which may have violated the integrity of the lithium polymer battery.
The company stated that it has ensured customer satisfaction and has provided Kumar with all the necessary assistance. The company did not provide further details on the type of damage done to the phone, which could have caused the battery to explode.
The history of the incident can be read below….
Ο holder, by name, Vikesh Kumar from Gurgaon, stated that his cell phone exploded as his battery "exploded". The cell phone set fire to his bag and burned it completely. The smartphone was purchased in December 2019 and all its charges were made with the factory charger.
Kumar was not injured but said he was disappointed with the response from Xiaomi's service center, which first tried to blame him for the explosion and then tried to extort money from him for a replacement unit.
The incident happened the day before yesterday and the Xiaomi customer reported the incident on social media yesterday.
Kumar said his cell phone was 90% charged when he arrived at work. He soon felt that the temperature of the smartphone was rising steadily and took the phone out of his pocket seconds later. He saw smoke coming from the back and threw the mobile phone in his bag next to it, when the device exploded.
He said the flame was so great that the fire could not be extinguished without the use of a fire extinguisher. Kumar says he could have suffered bodily harm if he delayed taking the phone out of his pocket for even 5 seconds.
Kumar then went to a Xiaomi service center in the city. The executives, according to him, tried to blame him for the explosion, telling him that he was the one responsible for causing damage to the smartphone.
When Kumar refused to take responsibility, the service center tried to force him to pay 50% of the cost of the smartphone to be replaced by a new Redmi Note 7 Pro. The service sheet provided by the service center does not mention the explosion as a problem, but as an "error" it displays "Power On Fault".
The matter has reached Xiaomi and we will inform you about anything new that arises.
