Qualcomm: Unveiled the new Snapdragon 765 and 865 chipsets today

Ο Snapdragon 865 is almost certain to be part of his SoC Xiaomi Mi 10Of Samsung Galaxy S11 and LG G9 and will be equipped with a 5G modem.

Η  Qualcomm today teased the SoC that we will see in the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 10 and stated that 2020 will be the year that 5G will be available on a large scale.

"The 5G Snapdragon platforms announced today will strengthen our industry leadership position and help deliver on our promise of 5G widescreen by 2020.Said Cristiano Amon, President of Qualcomm, during the annual Snapdragon Tech Summit in Hawaii.

It should be noted that at the moment Qualcomm has a monopoly on the 5G chipsets of smartphones in the US market, mainly due to the millimeter-wave technology used by providers, such as Verizon and AT&T, in their 5G networks. MediaTek, Samsung and Huawei have competing 5G chipsets, but neither of them supports this technology.

"We promise that 2020 will be the year in which 5G will be available on all Qualcomm chipsets,Said Cristiano Amon. This means that in 2020 we will see 5G support in midrange Snapdragon chipsets (600 series).

Motorola, Oppo and Xiaomi immediately announced that their new smartphones will use the Snapdragon 865, while Nokia said it would support the Snapdragon 765.

The new Snapdragon 865, 765 and 765G (for gaming) SoC chipsets will give you access to 5G whether you like it or not. Although the Snapdragon 855 was released as a 4G product with 5G upgrade capability, the 765 / G and 865 will have 5G modems. "We expect the Snapdragon 865 and 765 / 765G to be powered by the most sophisticated Android smartphones coming out in 2020 - regardless of whether their users are covered by a 5G or 4G network,Qualcomm said in a press release.

The Snapdragon 865 will include Qualcomm's X55 modem / antenna system, which we first saw on McLaren's OnePlus 7T Pro and T-Mobile's Samsung Galaxy Note 10+. The X55 is the first modem to be compatible with all 5G technologies (millimeter-wave, mid-band TDD and low-band FDD) used in the US, however the X55 smartphones using the Snapdragon 855 were only compatible with both from them.

Many analysts predict that 2021 will be the year that 5G will take off and become available on a large scale. The 14 million 5G connections in the USA in 2020 are expected to become 80 million in 2021. It should be noted that in September 2020 we also expect Apple's 5G iPhones.

Qualcomm did not give further information about the new chipsets, however we will not have to wait long, as more information about the Snapdragon 865, 765 and other products will be released tomorrow.
