Security: 5 ways to "shield" your cell phones

The fact that "smart" cell phones now contain a large number personal data of each user has opened the στους appetite to hacker.

ΟExperts point out that there are specific ways to protect smartphones from hacker attacks. Among these are the use of strong codes with special applications, the demonstration of attention to the licenses granted by the user in each application and the upgrade of the mobile phone software.

In accordance with Business Insider, users of "smart" mobile phones must be very careful, as today smartphones are used for banking transactions, for photos - even personal, and even to call a taxi, giving the application its address.

The five ways to "shield" smartphones against hackers

Business Insider has compiled a list of the five basic guidelines for securing personal data stored on "smart" cell phones in the face of a potential hacker attack.

1. Use secure applications for communication

Hackers can exploit security vulnerabilities in applications. For this reason, experts point out that users should choose value-added communication and networking applications that use encryption to protect personal data.

According to Business Insider, for mobile phones (Android and iPhones) there is an application called Signal, which supports perfect encryption. According to the same post, both Facebook and WhatsApp and Apple iMessage have a high level of security.

For browsers, experts also recommend DuckDuckGo, which, in addition, undertakes not to record any of the user's browsing data.

2. Keep your mobile up to date (updated)

According to experts, hackers are gradually "trained" in any available software. That's why it's important to regularly upgrade your cell phone software so that they are caught unreadable.

Business Insider points out that the software upgrades fix vulnerabilities that can give hackers access. To see if your smartphone is up to date you can go to settings and select the Software Update category.

In case the software (iOS or Android) is outdated, the smartphone will give you the option to upgrade on the spot.

3. Restrict applications that have access to personal data

Modern cell phones contain information such as locations, phone contacts, addresses, bank codes and other sensitive data. The best and most effective way to reduce corporate access to this data is to delete applications that you do not use.

You can also restrict applications' access to specific data recorded by the mobile phone, such as location access, photos, and phonebook.

This feature is offered by both iOS and Android, in a special tab of settings entitled App Permissions.

4. Use a password manager for your passwords

For most "smart" cell phone users, it can be difficult to memorize individual passwords for each service they use online. Nevertheless, using the same code for many services is not considered a good idea as it is .. "bread and cheese" for hackers.

For this reason, special applications have been created called password managers. Some of these are Keeper, 1Password and LastPass. These applications can generate complex and powerful passwords, which are then automatically entered into each service, without the need for the user to enter the password each time. All you need to do is remember the password of the password manager application.

5. Beware of public WiFi networks - Use a VPN

Every day, every smartphone can be connected to many networks, closed and open. When it comes to using public (open) WiFi then care is needed, as from there "pass" the sensitive personal data of the user.

Experts recommend the use of VPN (Virtual Private Network) for cases where the user connects to public WiFi. A VPN offers a secure connection to any WiFi, as it "disguises" the IP address of each mobile phone, hiding the identity of the user and the location of the device.

According to Business Insider, this extra step of protection makes it even more unlikely that a hacker could gain access to sensitive information while connecting to public WiFi. Note that most VPN services are not free. Nevertheless, the Opera browser offers a basic VPN service for free.

Very interesting but also complex for people for whom modern technology is distant.
Could they be made more understandable with less Latin elements? Wonder.
In general, however, a remarkable article.
