What are the consumer criteria for buying a Smartphone?

Smartphone makers around the world may be embarking on an investment race to equip their devices with the latest technology, however, users seem to be choosing a device with simpler criteria.

ΌWhen asked what are the most important features for buying a particular smartphone device, consumers report battery life, ease of use, durability and camera quality.

So while smartphone makers continue to invest in devices with high-tech options, such as face recognition, voice assistance or virtual reality, smartphone owners value the key functional features when choosing a phone.

This picture at least describes a new study by the company "Morning Consult". When asked what they consider to be the most important factors when deciding which phone to buy, battery life (95%), ease of use (93%), memory (90%) and durability (88%) are the basic answers.

The most advanced technological features, such as virtual reality tools (30%), parental control (32%) and face recognition capabilities (33%), are rated as less important features. However, according to the survey, which was conducted on a sample of 1.000 smartphone owners, 41% of owners say they would buy a folding device.

The research, however, notes that the manufacturers themselves should stimulate consumer interest in smartphones with high-tech features that differentiate devices from the competition, such as face recognition and other artificial intelligence tools.

Use of smartphone

The survey reveals that 86% of adults say they already have a smartphone. Consumers mostly use their smartphones for what they have been designed to do for years: 31% spend most of their time answering messages, 17% say they use their device mostly for browsing on social media, while 13% making phone calls.

In people aged 18-29, the picture varies slightly, with 26% spending most of their time texting and 23% updating their social media presence. Meanwhile, 10% of adults spend most of their time on their cell phone watching video content, while 2% said they use their device to navigate GPS and 1% take photos and videos.
