Nintendo Switch: There will be a new version with a larger Samsung OLED panel

A new report from Bloomberg states that Samsung will supply the Nintendo with OLED 7-inch panel for a new upgrade Nintendo Switch.

Σaccording to the report, the Samsung Display Co. will begin mass production of OLED panel for its upcoming release Nintendo Switch, which will have a larger screen. For those who do not know, the current version Switch has a small screen at 6.2 inches with a resolution of 720p while the Switch Lite has an even smaller one at 5.5 inches.

Based on some anonymous sources, the Samsung will start mass production of these panels sometime in June with the goal of producing about one million panels each month. Shipments to the assemblers are expected to take place in July.

The resolution of the new version will remain at 720p

Its analysis Nintendo Switch to OLED screen will remain on 720p. Apparently, the Nintendo wants to keep her HD screen to avoid the experience of docked and undocked modes between different versions (except Lite which is only portable).

Additionally, a screen FHD would increase energy consumption and generate more heat as the games would run at maximum resolution in undocked mode. Users will still be able to enjoy it FHD analysis as long as they use the Switch in docked mode on the TV.

The OLED panels will be rigid and is a cheaper alternative compared to the flexible panels that higher-end smartphones have. The source also states that when the Switch located in the dock, will be able to provide resolution up to 4K. However, this does not seem possible so far as its current hardware Nintendo Switch is capable of providing analysis only up to 1080p. To be able to Switch to maintain analysis in 4K, a version should be released Switch Pro which so far there is no indication that it will be released.

Η Nintendo trying to maintain order Switch which continues to make several sales against the Xbox and PlayStation. While Sony and Microsoft already have their next generation consoles, the Nintendo logically will continue to support the Switch for a few more years.

During the pandemic, some of the games that were released for the console, such as Animal Crossing, managed to make the console even more successful. The company also takes advantage of the fact that there is a shortage of stocks of its competitors (due to the lack of chips inside these consoles).

The Nintendo Switch is now in its 5th year since its release. In terms of performance, it is far behind the PS5 and the new Xbox series. However, thanks to its library of games and exclusives, it still remains a successful console.
