Apple has patented a method that allows their full screen iPhone be a great fingerprint reader.
Οis called Acoustic pulse coding for imaging of input surfaces and uses sound to recognize an image, such as a fingerprint.
Audio inverters mounted on the screen send signals each time they recognize pressure on the screen. Then by "translating" the reflection of these sound signals the system recognizes the fingerprint or not.
The patent states that this system has advantages compared to classic fingerprint sensors. Deceptive parts of the system can be placed on the edges of the screen surface and fingerprint certification can be done faster than a classic fingerprint reader.
Importantly, with this method, the entire screen can become a fingerprint reader and we will not have to press our finger on a specific point (see Huawei Mate 20 Pro) or on a specific surface (see upcoming Xiaomi Mi 9).
