[MWC 2019] LG unveils LG V50ThinQ 5G, along with the new LG G8ThinQ

The LG V50 ThinQ brings the 5G experience to consumers, while the LG G8 ThinQ smartphone raises the level of "smart" phones and recommends advanced biometrics.

Η LG Electronics (LG) sparks the imagination of consumers worldwide at the Mobile World Congress 2019, with the simultaneous presentation of the new LG G and V series flagship smartphones at the Center de Convencions Internacional de Barcelona (CCIB) in Barcelona, LG has introduced the first 5G smartphone, the LG V50ThinQ 5G, along with the new LG G8ThinQ, causing double excitement.

The perfect Smartphone for the 5G era

The groundbreaking LG V50ThinQ 5G is designed to deliver a great user experience as soon as 5G service is available. LG's first 5G handset will live up to expectations, offering unmatched reliability and allowing users to experience high quality content at 5G speeds, and is expected to achieve up to 20 times the speed of 4G.

LG has given great importance to enhancing the screen and audio performance of the LG V50ThinQ 5G. A 6,4-inch QHD + OLED FullVision display with a 19,5: 9 aspect ratio offers users an enhanced sense of "immersion", whether they are watching a video or having fun with a game.

The audio has been upgraded to have stereo performance that the user can enjoy with or without headphones. With DTS: X technology, the LG V50ThinQ 5G allows users to experience surround sound that improves the quality of any content and creates a realistic sound effect with exceptional clarity and depth. The phone also supports Qualcomm® aptX ™ and aptX HD audio technology for superior Bluetooth audio quality and low audio latency ideal for impressive headphone listening experiences.

The LG 5G smartphone has innovations that allow users to take great photos and videos. In addition to still images, LG has implemented Video Depth Control on both the front and rear cameras to ensure that moving objects remain in focus. By analyzing distance and depth thanks to Dual FOV technology, users can capture exactly what they see, enabling the production of flawless and incredibly professional videos.

LG's first 5G device runs the latest Qualcomm® Snapdragon ™ 855 Mobile platform with the Snapdragon X50 5G modem and LG optimized software to provide the required advanced processing power for 5G. The phone is also equipped with a 4.000mAh battery, 20% larger than the V40ThinQ, and a new Vapor Chamber heat-absorbing system, which is more efficient than conventional heat pipes to keep indoor temperatures low and support continuous processing efficiency. applications even when doing many things at once.

Featuring the slim, sleek V-Series design, the LG V50ThinQ 5G is only 8,3mm thick and weighs just 183 grams. To maintain its sleek profile, the back cover of the lens on the new V smartphone is completely aligned with the back of the phone. All this is achieved without sacrificing the durability of the LG V50ThinQ 5G, which still meets the US military standards MIL-STD 810G.

In anticipation of the first 5G phone, LG is working with 10 major telecommunications providers in markets where 5G service will be launched this year, including the United States, South Korea, Australia and some European countries.

Dual screens for an even richer 5G experience

Raising the level of user experience and convenience with the first 5G smartphone, LG has developed the Dual Screen as an optional case for the LG V50ThinQ 5G. Designed to look like a cover, the Dual Screen opens to give LG V50ThinQ 5G owners a second 6,2-inch OLED screen for dual viewing, gaming and multitasking experience. The Dual Screen and the LG V50ThinQ 5G can be operated independently, allowing for many interesting usage options. For example, users can watch a movie on one screen while searching for IMDB information on the other.

When the Dual Screen is connected, an icon appears on the screen of the LG V50ThinQ 5G, which, when pressed, activates either the second screen or the easy switching between the two screens. A multi-window function divides each screen into two, enabling the simultaneous display and use of four applications. In selected games, the Double Screen can be used solely as a controller, solving the well-known thumb control problem that prevented users. The Dual Screen can be mounted at two convenient angles - 104 and 180 degrees - without the need for separate charging.

Fresh air in the mobile experience

The LG G8ThinQ continues to "traditionally" offer consumers worldwide a huge range of usability features, with an emphasis on providing advanced visual and audio capabilities. In addition, the philosophy of discreet and elegant design without unnecessary design elements, gives the LG G8ThinQ an unmistakably refined look. Its impeccable aesthetics are not limited to the front of the device, as the seamless integration of the rear camera creates an incredibly flat surface. Crystal Sound OLED, an enhanced audio player that uses the smartphone screen as a speaker aperture, eliminates the need for a front speaker, enhancing the minimalist aesthetic.

The LG G8ThinQ is the first smartphone in the world with advanced palm vein authentication, which is made possible by the combination of a ToF Z camera and infrared sensors. Offering greater reliability than fingerprint recognition technology, LG's Hand ID feature recognizes users through the shape and thickness of the veins on the palms and other individual features of their hands. All you need to do to unlock your LG G8ThinQ phone and all its contents is to simply place your hand in front of the front camera for a split second.

The advanced Z camera comes back into play as it captures stunning selfies in portrait mode. The Z camera has the ability to measure infrared and determine the depth faster and more accurately than other image sensors, making features such as Face Unlock possible. Because the Z camera sees objects in 3D, it is impossible to fool Face Unlock. Thanks to ToF technology, the accuracy of LG Z camera is not affected by ambient light and external sources. With multiple forms of biometric authentication, LG provides more smartphone security options than any other manufacturer, allowing consumers to choose which option suits them best, depending on the occasion.

The Z Camera can also enhance the user experience with Air Motion gesture recognition. Users can answer or end calls, take screenshots, switch applications, or adjust the volume without having to touch the phone. Controlling the LG G8ThinQ is as simple as moving your fingers or hand or swiping up, increasing the convenience of users when wearing gloves or swimming.

Unlike existing cameras that can only distinguish subject and background, the front camera on the LG G8ThinQ measures the distance between subject and camera in millimeters to control the background blur up to 256 levels for selfies with greater depth. With a 1,22μm image sensor (about 10% larger than the LG V40ThinQ), the LG G8 ThinQ can produce a much clearer image, which is even faster with autofocus.

Video in portrait mode debuts on the LG G8ThinQ, giving users bokeh control when recording video in portrait mode using the rear camera. By analyzing distance and depth thanks to Dual FOV technology, users can capture exactly what they see, enabling high-resolution video output.

In addition to optical functions, the LG G8ThinQ excels in multimedia performance as the first LG G-Series device to feature an OLED display. The large QHD + FullVision screen has 6,1 inches with 564 pixels per inch, for incredible detail, while the AI screen optimizes color and brightness in any environment, helping to protect the eyes from fatigue.

High definition audio is a key feature of LG smartphones and so the LG G8ThinQ is no exception, with the Boombox Speaker now offering stereo performance. Stereo audio becomes louder with DTS: X, while the 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC offers unmatched detail in the audio. The LG G8ThinQ also supports Master Quality Authenticated (MQA) technology, allowing high-resolution compressed audio streaming without compromising sound quality. In collaboration with Meridian Audio, the LG G8ThinQ is a worthy addition to LG's legacy of sound superiority.

The G series as the ultimate choice for everyone

Another member of the LG G family will be available in the coming months, after MWC, for markets looking for a unique combination of great design without compromising on performance or key features that make the LG G8ThinQ so special. The LG G8ThinQ features Qualcomm's fast Snapdragon 855 mobile platform and vibrant colors with a 6,2-inch OLED display powered by a powerful 3.350 mAh battery. The three backlit cameras, the special night shooting function and the low light HDR technology, make this device unique, while the Z camera allows enhanced security through Hand ID and Face Unlock. Air Motion, headphones and stereo speakers complete the package for customers looking for the G8 experience at a competitive price.
