It's been a long time since MIUI 12 was released for various devices, and you might want to try Xiaomi's new operating system on your old Redmi Note 4.
Έso what, we found one Ported ROM by MIUI 12 for Redmi Note 4 / 4x (Mido) from the official Xiaomi forum.
About ROM:
- Android version: 9
- Port ROM by : Akib
- Special thanks to Erfan for the GSI tool
Requirements:
- Unlocked bootloader
- TWRP Recovery
- MIUI Port ROM
Steps to upgrade your ROM:
- Download the ROM and save it to your device.
- Start the device in Recovery (Hold down the power button and the volume up button while the device is off)
- Scroll to the option Wipe and then select it Advanced Wipe and choose to Wipe everything except the internal storage and SD card, and drag the button that says Swipe to Wipe to complete the deletion.
- Go back to the Installation menu and browse to find the ROM zip file you saved.
- Select this zip file and drag it key >>> to begin installing the ROM.
- Wait for the ROM installation to finish.
- Then click Restart.
- Let your device boot into MIUI 12.
- If your device does not restart automatically after 5 minutes, restart yourself by holding down the power button until your device restarts.

Are the Google apps in the rom or do they have to be entered separately?

I have the pixel experience from stock rom miui 11 on xiaomi redmi note 4x, can I flash it over?
You'll have to do a Format Data from TWRP Recovery before flashing the other ROM, which means you'll lose everything on your device and have to set everything up from scratch.
You may also need a different TWRP Recovery than the one you have now, but this is not certain.
Thanks for the reply, I did the same thing initially, wipe system and for some reason it loaded the stock by itself after an hour and I was able to flash the pixel which is nice but the applications are slow to open in general.
In general, AOSP Android ROMs need a lot of attention, because they often change the size of the Partitions on the devices, with the result that when you go to install another Custom MIUI ROM, you will have problems with Flash.
