Attention: Never open your mail if you receive this message!

With alleged sender the Headquarters of EL.AS. unknown perpetrators were sending emails by which they informed their recipients about Alleged breach of e-banking services.

Ο sender of the messages "signs" as "Hellenic Police Headquarters", with postal address police@department.gr. and a contact telephone number corresponding to a police service, while the fax number mentioned belongs to a private company.

The Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate informs the citizens what it should:

- Be especially careful in case they find out the existence of such posts on social networks or receive emails, to avoid possible financial fraud.

- Do not respond to such posts on social networks and do not respond to emails requesting personal data or financial data.

What should you look out for when using the internet? The Hellenic Police gives some very useful tips so that you do not fall victim to scams.

How can I use the Internet without compromising my personal data, fraud, threats or other criminal activity?

When receiving emails from banks, be generally suspicious and know that a bank would never send a message inviting its customers to fill out their details on a website.

If you have any doubts about the sender, it is best before contacting the email to contact the company - sender to verify that this is not a case of fraud.

Do not follow links from emails or websites but always enter the addresses they ask you to visit.

Before each online transaction, make sure that the email address you are at starts with "https: //" and not just "http: //". This ensures that you are using a secure web connection (http secure).

Do not reply to emails if you do not know the sender. To prevent your email address from being filled with junk advertising, delete it before you even read it.

It is a good idea to have antivirus software on your computer. This software can protect against viruses or spyware. Phishing messages often refer to websites that install spyware on your computer, which record any information entered from account and credit card numbers to passwords, even after the user exits the website.

You can also install a digital filter on your email that blocks spam.

Never buy products that are advertised in spam emails or navigate to the links contained in them, as most of them are scams.

Use two email accounts. One to be your personal account and the other to be used for any other activity on the internet (financial transactions, registration in Forum, etc.).

Do not store passwords, IDs, credit card numbers, family information, or other personal information on your computer.

Do not trust strangers during conversations in a chat room and do not give your personal information.

In case you receive threats from people during your online discussions, immediately stop communicating with them and contact directly the Cybercrime Prosecution Departments of the Attica and Thessaloniki Security Directorates, as the case may be.
