Windows 10: Microsoft reportedly develops new App Store for its popular operating system

The Microsoft Store in Windows 10 has been in need of a renewal for quite some time now and it looks like it will finally happen later this year with a number of very welcome changes.

Όas it states Windows Central, "Sources familiar with the matter" state that Microsoft is working on a brand new Store that will follow the same user interface update that was scheduled for Windows 10 this year, which is called "Sun Valley». The new Store will continue to be an application Universal Windows Platform (UWP) and will receive monthly updates, but the applications it will host will not have to be UWP.

In addition to a new look, Microsoft will relax the policies that will govern the renewed Store. Developers will be able to submit uncompressed applications Win32 for sale and without modification (so the files .exe and . MSI it will be OK). It will also be possible to host these applications on the developer's content delivery network, and updates can be run from there.

Another relaxation is the possibility for developers to choose a third-party trading platform for their applications, if they wish. However, if they choose Microsoft to handle in-app purchases, obviously the Microsoft does not intend to reduce its pricing.

This means that the Store will be able to host any and all Windows applications, which may make it more attractive to developers and publishers. This assuming that new UI prove successful and Microsoft uses a lot of marketing resources to ensure that users of Windows they will know and start using the Store.

Ideally, they want the equivalent of the Store that is currently on Xbox consoles, but for all application categories Windows.

This new Store experience is expected to arrive in the fall and a number of first-party applications (such as Office, Visual Studio, Teams) will be available along with some great third-party developer hits, such as applications Adobe Creative Cloud, if she Microsoft acquire the rights. The virtual Build 2021 conference kicks off on May 25, where we will likely hear something more formal about this redesign.
