LG will present the flagship G8 ThinQ at MWC 2019, and today the manufacturer revealed that the phone will come with a Selfie ToF camera.
This sensor was developed by the German technology company Infineon, and although there are no technical details about the sensor, LG stated that it will "offer a new level of capabilities of the front camera to a smartphone".
The Infineon ToF chip will produce measurements by receiving infrared light, which is reflected by the face. This means that it will be more efficient in low light and will reduce the workload on the processor, thus reducing energy consumption. ToF will also be used for extremely secure face unlock and VR applications.
According to Andreas Urschitz, president of Infineon's Energy Management & Multimarket division, XNUMXD cameras will be on most smartphones over the next five years, and the German company will make a significant contribution.
