Salo has caused the Official statement by the Lithuanian Ministry of National Defense, according to which consumers are advised to avoid buying Xiaomi Smartphones, and in general any Smartphone coming from China.

ΕIt is well known that China closely monitors and censors its citizens, and in fact almost all Chinese companies should abide by this "command".

In areas outside China, no such thing has been found, but today and all of a sudden - his official statement has caused a stir. Ministry of National Defense Lithuania, according to Consumers are advised to avoid buying Xiaomi Smartphones, and generally any Smartphone from China.

Η Xiaomi is a very popular manufacturer of Smartphones in Europe, and is known for the very good specifications and build quality of its devices, but at the same time at very affordable prices.

Do not use them, throw them away immediately

Today, however Lithuanian Ministry of Defense advises the citizens of the country, but also abroad, to stop buying Xiaomi smartphones. But it does not stop there, but suggests to all owners of devices to throw them away immediately.

The reason for this extreme advice is an investigation carried out on behalf of the Lithuanian government. According to the Lithuanian government, Xiaomi devices have built-in censorship capabilities. In fact, as mentioned by his news agency Reuters, the top smartphones sold in Europe, have a built-in ability to recognize and censor terms such as “Free Tibet","Long Live Taiwan Independence"Or"Democracy Movement".

It can be activated at any time

In his case Xiaomi Mi 10T 5G for example, this software automatically shuts off for the European market, but according to the Lithuanian cybersecurity authority, it can be activated remotely at any time.

The Deputy Minister of Defense of Lithuania, Margiris Abukevicius, stated:

Our recommendation is not to buy new Chinese mobile phones and get rid of those that have already been purchased as soon as possible.

The publication of this report can be considered anything but accidental, as there have been recent diplomatic tensions between Lithuania and China. In particular, all the tension that has been created between the two countries concerns its recognition Ταϊβάν or the fact that the island state claimed by China is allowed to open an embassy in Vilnius with the name Taiwan While in other countries by name Taipei.

Xiaomi's response to Lithuania's allegations

Η Xiaomi denies all of Lithuania's allegations, and has now issued a statement stating the following:

Xiaomi devices do not censor communication with or from their users. The Xiaomi has never restricted or obstructed the personal activities of users on its smartphones, such as searching, calling, browsing the Internet or using third party communication software.

Xiaomi respects and fully protects the legal rights of its users. Η Xiaomi complies with European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
