Η InterDigital, an Indian company for research and development of technology for mobile telephony and video, announced today that it is taking action against Xiaomi for infringement of patents (H.265 / HEVC).
Όas stated by InterDigital, is willing to resolve the issue with Xiaomi under the conditions of legal authorization (FRAND).
According to the claim, which was filed in the Supreme Court of Delhi, the InterDigital seeks compensation from Xiaomi for infringing on its own patents. Patents that include technologies aimed at improvements in 3G and 4G, where the InterDigital developed after two decades Research & Development. The technologies H.265 / HEVC include many improvements to reduce the required network resources, but also to improve the image quality in the video.
Currently, these patents InterDigital have already been licensed and used by large companies such as Samsung, Apple, Huawei etc.
Commenting on the patent infringement by Xiaomi, o William J. Merritt, President and CEO of InterDigital stated:
These surveys lead to improvements in wireless networking and video streaming standards, and companies that are legally licensed and using these technologies allow companies such as InterDigital to reinvest in even more research, benefiting all users and the industry in general.
We hope that the claim filed with the Delhi Supreme Court will lead to a fair authorization, and that the Xiaomi will soon join its client group InterDigital, as was the case with Samsung, Apple, Huawei and many others.
We are now waiting for the answer - move from Xiaomi πλευρά.
