Xiaomi: Will increase the prices of its next flagships (Mi Series)!

Xiaomi co-founder and CEO Lei Jun warns that Xiaomi phones (specifically the Mi series) could become more expensive in future releases as the company seeks to leave behind its reputation for producing low-cost devices .

Η The new flagship of the company's Mi 9 mobile phone, released on February 20 in Beijing, is full of new features: three separate cameras, a powerful Qualcomm Snapdradon 855 chip, wireless charging and a slightly higher price.

The Mi 9 starts at 2.999 RMB (approximately € 395), while the Transparent Edition sells for 3.999 RMB (approximately € 527). The lowest version of the Mi 9SE starts at 1.999 RMB (approximately € 263). The previous model, Mi 8, had its starting price at 2,699 RMB (approximately € 355).

Lei said: “In fact, we want to get rid of this rumor that our phones cost less than 2.000 RMB. We want to invest more and make better products. "

He added, "I said that this could be the last time our price will be below 3.000 RMB (395 €)… In the future our phones could be more expensive - not much, but a little more expensive."

We have mentioned the issue of price increases by Xiaomi before, as it makes sense as it expands to other countries with its own physical stores - its own distribution network and increased fixed costs, to support all this expansion strategy it has designed will eventually have to pass on this extra cost to the final price of its products.

Especially now that it is in the stock market, it needs to convince the investors who support it, that it can give them profits so that they can continue to invest capital, and support its expansion, but also its research work, which will be given to them by lead in innovation over its rivals.

This is also the reason that has broken the production of Smartphones into three separate parent companies, which are at the same time autonomous now, in terms of the design - development and distribution of their products. Of course we are talking about RedMi, the Poco India and Black Shark.

Redmi and the Poco India is the platform that Xiaomi will use to keep prices down – offering feature-rich devices that will truly be Value for Money in the low- and mid-range segment, and Xiaomi as the main owner of the Mi Brand, will manufacture the flagships of the company with the well-known Mi series, directly targeting the fanatical audience that wants the best the company has to offer, and with prices of course that will rise in a short time.

All of the above seems reasonable, but as long as it does not deviate enough from the Badget that has been set as a limit by the company's fans all these years, because no matter how we do it, usually the upward price increases also have a negative impact on sales.

If we remember the example of One Plus that started with the corresponding Xiaomi invoice, but gradually went far beyond the original pricing profile it had, approaching the cost of the flagships of Huawei and Samsung, we may get a picture of what will will soon follow in Xiaomi's pricing policy for Mi smartphones.
