Vodafone: Activated the 5G network in Athens and Thessaloniki

The Vodafone 5G has been activated. It Vodafone Giga Network 5G operates in areas of Athens and Thessaloniki.

Η Vodafone 5G new era has begun. Vodafone activates Vodafone Giga Network 5G, the new state-of-the-art network that unleashes new possibilities for everyone and breathes new life into innovative technology applications that can change our cities, upgrade health services and add another dimension to education.

The President and CEO of Vodafone Greece, Harris Broumidis said:

The journey of 5G has begun and we are determined to offer the citizens and businesses of the country applications from tomorrow, which will change their lives. The investments we make in our networks and technologies will help Greece accelerate its course towards the digital tomorrow.

The next decade will be the decade of 5G and the gradual digitization of Greek society will release more and more opportunities to a growing part of the population in every corner of Greece.

The people of Vodafone are deeply moved that from the very beginning of this journey we have been able to prove that this new technology gives new life to the possibilities and opportunities for everyone, even for people with objective obstacles in their lives.

The reason for him Christos Sandalaki, a cyclist - tandem world champion - with 99% vision loss, who managed to ride a bike for the first time alone, thanks to the capabilities of Vodafone's 5G network.

By immediate response and almost zero delay in the data transmission provided by Vodafone Giga Network 5G, a mobile phone that Christos had adapted to his helmet, transmitted a real-time image and allowed video communication with Sotiris, his athlete and driver.

Thus, Sotiris, who until recently was riding the same bike as Christos, was in a van at another point and was able to guide him from a distance, through the connection to the Giga Network of Vodafone, to complete his course on his own.

The feeling was indescribable when I reached the finish line alone! I realized that what I went through was not just the end, but the beginning of a tomorrow full of new possibilities
Αθλη said the athlete Christos Sandalakis excitedly, after the completion of the route.

The incredibly high speeds and the immediate response offered by the Vodafone Giga Network 5G, change the data for all Greeks. With first stations in areas of Athens and Thessaloniki, the Vodafone Giga Network 5G is already operational and by the end of the next financial year, a population coverage of 40% will have been achieved.

At the same time, through the parallel modernization of the 4G network, Vodafone's 4G customers will benefit from an improved connection experience and higher speeds - up to 50% - from day one. In addition, Vodafone already has the first 5G devices, while within two months the available devices will be more than twenty.
