LG: Accelerates the development of Artificial Intelligence with its own AI Chip

As part of its strategy to accelerate device development Artificial Intelligence (AI) for the house, the LG Electronics (LG) has developed its own artificial intelligence chip (AI Chip).

Mwith the proprietary LG neural network will be able to better perform the neural network of the human brain and improve the learning process of algorithms.

AI Chip incorporates visual intelligence to better recognize and distinguish space, location, objects and users, while voice intelligence accurately recognizes voice and noise characteristics. In addition, the intelligence of the products enhances the capabilities of the device by detecting physical and chemical changes in the environment. The chip also enables the application of personalized AI services by processing and learning video and audio data, in order to improve the recognition of the user's emotions and behaviors and the occasion.

Products that use the LG AI Chip take advantage of On-Device AI to operate even without a network connection. In addition, LG AI Chip uses a powerful security engine to better protect personal data from external hacking. Processing that does not require high protection is designed to be performed in a general zone, while tasks that require higher security are performed in a separate safety zone.

The LG AI Chip is designed to improve recognition performance on the products it includes, such as an advanced Simultaneous Detection and Mapping (SLAM) image recognition engine. For example, the powerful image editing feature corrects distortion caused by wide-angle lenses and produces brighter and clearer images in dark environments. LG Electronics plans to include the new AI Chip in future robot vacuum cleaners, washing machines, refrigerators and even air conditioners. In addition, LG will expand the scope of artificial intelligence solutions through partnerships with other companies, universities and research laboratories.
