ΜMemorandum for the development of a 5G pilot network in Kalamata was signed on Friday by the Mayor of the city Panagiotis Nikas and the General Director of Strategy WIND Antonis Tzortzakakis.
The memorandum is the second step for the implementation of a 5G pilot network in the city as it was preceded last September by the signing of a similar memorandum with the Secretary General of Telecommunications and Posts Vassilis Maglaras.
«Kalamata has been innovating in the digital sector for years, because we are aware that it is necessary to design and install digital infrastructure, to facilitate businesses and citizens at work and in their daily lives through broadband networks and wireless communications. Our effort is recognized and a typical example is the recent award of the Municipality of Kalamata with the distinction of "Smart City"", Said among others the Mayor of Kalamata Panagiotis Nikas.
«The installation of a pilot 5G wireless telecommunications network by WIND brings Kalamata to the forefront of the world, opening wide the "highways" for 21st century communication, which are digital. Applications are difficult for even experts to imagine. I thank the Ministry of Digital Policy and WIND for the cooperation and I look forward to the applications of the 5G network, which will give a competitive advantage to our companies, will improve the services and operation of the Municipality of Kalamata and will provide a better quality of life for the citizens.».
Fifth generation networks can bring better quality telecommunications, greater capacity, higher data transfer speeds and contribute to the implementation of all these applications that make a city "smart".
«WIND supports the state initiative to make Greece a pioneer in the adoption of 5th generation networks and we are committed to investing in the development of 5G, as we invest in fiber optic networks to create the infrastructure of the future. 5G will change our daily lives both individually and at the city level since people, environment, objects, machines will all be connected to a digital ecosystem", Stated characteristically the General Director of Strategy WIND Hellas, Antonis Tzortzakakis.
«It is very important for us that we develop a 5G pilot in Kalamata, having excellent cooperation with the Municipality, because with the new technology we will contribute to the enhancement of the development that the city is already experiencing as the local business community is very active - especially in tourism but and in primary production. 5G can transform the productive model of our country and we have all the conditions to take advantage of this opportunity».
