Apple "snatched" the Head of Samsung Batteries to lead the Company to carry out its own battery development efforts from now on.
Μafter the expected, huge turnover loss for the first quarter of 2019 mainly due to the bad batteries in the previous ones iPhones and the process of profitable battery replacement, Apple has hired a battery specialist from Samsung.
Apple "snatched" the Head of Samsung Batteries to lead the Company to carry out its own battery development efforts from now on. The American giant hired Soonho Ahn of Samsung SDI to become the global head of Battery Developments, Bloomberg reports after highlighting the significant career move in the LinkedIn profile. Ahn started working with Apple in December 2018 after four years with Samsung, two years of which he spent as an SVP for "Next Generation Batteries" and "Innovation Materials". It undertook the development of new battery technologies not only for mobile devices, but also for electric vehicles and engines.
Samsung SDI is a subsidiary that has undertaken the manufacture of batteries and has even started to be used to supply batteries for iPads and MacBooks for years. Apple has simply changed suppliers at some point, and it is clear from recent developments that the tech giant is taking steps to stop relying on other companies for the parts it needs. In mid-2018, for example, it was revealed that the company was working on custom Mac processors to replace Intel on its laptops. In fact, he has reportedly sought the help of former Intel employees to build a processor that will be made inside Apple, and something similar can happen in this case.
