Huawei announced today in China the flagship Mate 50 series, which includes three devices: the base version of the Mate 50, Mate 50 Pro as well as a special RS Porsche Design version, which adds a Tele-Macro camera
Όall models of the new series are equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC, but as is the case with Huawei smartphones due to US sanctions, on none of the three devices connectivity on 5G networks is not supported. The Pro version reaches up to 512 GB of storage space, but it can take one NM memory card to expand internal storage up to 256 GB or more.
The Mate 50 Pro is the flagship of the new range and comes with 6,74 inch OLED screen with a renewal rate of 120 Hz and color depth at 10 bit in analysis 1212 x 2616px. This strange resolution that the screen has is due to the notch for the front Selfie camera.
Η Pro version has one main camera at 50MP with optical image stabilization (OIS) with a six-lens variable aperture, which ranges from f/1,4 to f/4,0. The UtrlaWide camera has a sensor in 13MP and flashlight f / 2.2 while in telephoto camera specifications with 3.5x zoom we have sensor at 64MP with f/3.5 and OIS. Interestingly, the telephoto lens uses a type sensor RYYB.
The camera system is supported by a 10-channel multispectral sensor and laser autofocus. In its special edition Mate 50 RS Porsche Design, the company has swapped the 64MP telephoto lens for a periscope Tele-Macro camera with sensor in 48MP with macro photography capabilities.
On the front of the device and at the top of the screen, we have placed one UltraWide Selfie camera at 13MP with diaphragm f / 2.4 and one 3D ToF sensor which is also used for advanced face unlock (Face Unlock).
The Mate 50 Pro powered by a battery at 4.700 mAh with support for wired charging at 66W and wireless charging at 50W, while it also features an advanced emergency battery saver feature that will allow you to keep the phone on standby for an extra three hours, even if you only have 1% from the battery.
The device will be available in five different options in Blue, Orange, Silver, Black and Purple color, with the latter two available in leather and glass versions on the back of the device. It Mate 50 RS Porsche Design is only available in blue and purple colors with a ceramic back.
The rest of the features that stand out include the satellite connection based on the so-called protocol Beidou Satellite Message 3. Essentially it means you can send a message and a location even without cell coverage.
As far as basic version of Mate 50, demotes the screen to one 6,7-inch OLED with a renewal rate of 90 Hz, but maintains roughly the same resolution and color depth at 10 bit. The main and UltraWide have the same specs as the Pro version (including variable aperture), but the telephoto camera with 5x zoom, comes with a sensor at 12MP and f/2,4 lens.
The battery is slightly smaller – at 4.460 mAh, although the same charging technologies exist.
Color options are identical and all devices work with the new software HarmonyOS 3.0.
As for the prices, for the Mate 50 Pro starting at CNY 6.799 (~ $ 980) for the 256GB version, while the basic 128GB version is priced from CNY 4.999 (~ $ 720).
On the other hand, his special edition Mate 50 RS Porsche priced at CNY 12.999 (~ $ 1.870), and so far there is no information about availability in global markets.
