The infrastructure for fast internet in all the schools of the country is being upgraded

In actions for the immediate upgrade of the schools' connections to the internet through it Panhellenic School Network (PSD) the Ministries of Education & Religions and Digital Governance.

ΣIn view of the completion of the tenders for "Coupling II" - which will provide all telecommunications services to public bodies - the existing ADSL connections used by the schools in modern broadband VDSL technology connections are immediately upgraded, with the care of the of the current contractor and without any additional charge for the State. With the completion of "Coupling II", all schools in the country will have FTTx connections at their disposal.

The upgrade process is expected to begin in the next few days at the initiative of the current contractor. With the completion of the process, 11.400 Primary and Secondary schools with 10.000 IT labs, 1,37 million students and 142.000 teachers will have significantly higher internet access speeds than today.

Referring to the decisions for the upgrade of the PSD, the Minister of Education & Religions Victory of Kerameos stated: "We consider it of the utmost importance and our priority to ensure the accessibility of all to quality learning tools, such as the upgraded broadband connections of the country's schools. The correct use of modern technologies in the educational process on the one hand promotes the digital skills of students, on the other hand facilitates the teaching and work of teachers. The zero burden on the State, moreover, proves that many reforms do not require financial resources but proper planning and political will.».

For his part, the Minister of State in charge of Digital Governance, Kyriakos Pierrakakis, stated: «The process we have chosen to upgrade the connections of schools through the Panhellenic School Network is another clear proof of our desire to move quickly to improve the infrastructure and services provided. The Panhellenic School Network is an extremely important infrastructure, as it is the communication portal of the educational community on the internet.

It is understandable that we all want to create the best possible conditions in terms of information technology and telecommunications for schools, students and teachers. With the integration of the Panhellenic School Network in "Coupling II" we will be able to offer even better and more services to the educational community while achieving economies of scale, security, reliability and transparency».
