The South Korean manufacturer stated that it knows about security error which allows any fingerprint to unlock Samsung Galaxy S10.
ΕThe company also promised to release a software update that fixes this bug.
The problem and its location
The Samsung Galaxy S10 problem was first reported by a British woman whose phone was successfully unlocked by her husband. The owner of the smartphone bought one cheap gel screen protector from eBay.
As soon as he placed the protector on the screen of the Samsung Galaxy S10 he found that could unlock the smartphone with a fingerprint which he had not registered. Likewise, her husband could unlock the smart phone with his own fingers.
Also, the same problem was faced by a relative of hers, who after installing a screen protector on the Samsung Galaxy S10 could unlock it with all his fingers.
The source of the problem
The Galaxy S10 was released in March this year and was the company's first smartphone ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, which the manufacturer described as "Revolutionary" piece of technology. However, fingerprint authentication is by far one of the most controversial features of the Galaxy S10.
Last January, accessory maker Armadillotek tried to use the Samsung Galaxy S10 ultrasonic fingerprint scanner by installing a screen protector.
According to the company, the scanner did not even work because the protector leaves a small gap between itself and the screen. This results in the scanner failing to read the fingerprints correctly.
In addition, in the past someone managed to unlock the Galaxy S10 using a 3D printed fingerprint. Of course, the case is quite different, because it was done on a naked screen and the dummy was based on the fingerprint of the owner of the smartphone.
The solution to the problem
Samsung says it will fix the problem as soon as possible. Until then, Samsung Galaxy S10 owners will be fine to avoid the use of cheap accessories and of course to identify their details on execution of financial transactions using more secure methods.
