Now the Essential Phone, a company created by Rubin, is preparing to take the next step.
Ο Andy Rubin, one of the creators of the Android operating system, left Google and moved to launching of his own smartphone proposal.
The reason for Project Gem, a smartphone that was revealed through the posting of relevant photos of both Andy Rubin in his personal account and in the corporate account of Essential Phone. According to the images that saw the light of day, Project Gem concerns a particularly elongated device with the appropriate user interface that consists of applications in the form of "card" and large controls.
More specifically, the device appears to have a large control and volume key on the right side and a fingerprint scanner on the back, below what appears to be the smartphone's main camera. Apart from that, the device seems to have an impressive finish and a variety of alternative colors.
A company spokesman told The Verge that this was Essential's next phone, adding: "We have started working on a new device which is now in the early stages of testing, we look forward to giving more details in the near future."
It is worth noting that after the launch of the original Essential Phone, a Bloomberg article in 2018 stated that the company is preparing a phone with a smaller screen that would be controlled primarily through voice commands and with a built-in highly advanced Artificial Intelligence that would undertake a variety of manipulations on behalf of the user.
The XDA-Developers website also made some additional revelations on the subject, pointing out that the Project Gem digital assistant may be activated via the sensor on the back of the device. Also, the smartphone will run some version of Android while inside it will probably be Qualcomm's Snapdragon 730 processor.
It is a platform that is ranked in the middle power range, a logical move since everything shows that the new smartphone of Essential will be more of a "digital companion" device than a "digital center" device.
