Η Union of Consumer Workers of Greece of GSEE realized sample survey, on the very critical issue of guarantee when selling consumer products
The reason for this investigation was the ongoing protests and complaints from consumers regarding the very critical issue of providing a guarantee when selling consumer products, an issue that plagued the consumer public before the pandemic and especially from the start of the lockdown until today, a period in which they jumped distance shopping.
In particular, acts or omissions of supplier-traders related to their obligation to provide it legal guarantee of the goods but also for its extension through the commercial guarantee they offer.
Η Union of Consumer Workers of Greece of GSEE carried out a sampling Survey, using random sample of 160 online stores selling goods through their websites, in order to establish whether they largely meet the basic requirements of the Law.
The Research took place during the period 26/09/2022 έως 07/10/2022.
During the Research, we checked whether the following information is available on their websites, and if it is, whether its wording is in line with the requirements of the Law.
- Reference to Legal Warranty
- Reference to the Commercial Warranty
- Reference to the Commercial Warranty of those who do not mention the Legal
- Legal Warranty Time
- Who provides the commercial guarantee?
- Reference to the DOA (Dead on Arrival) guarantee
Based on the research findings, from the random sample of the 160 online stores selling goods through their online websites that were checked, it was found that:
- Only the 32,1% refers to the legal warranty of the product in case of actual defect while the rest 67,9% makes absolutely no mention.
- The 57,9% states the commercial guarantee carried by the products as opposed to 42,1% which makes no mention.
- of the online stores that made no mention of the statutory warranty, they provided a commercial warranty 4/10 stores, without making any mention of the legal guarantee thus violating the law
- the majority of online stores (95,6%) correctly states that the legal guarantee is defined in two (2) years while a small percentage (4,4%) which incorrectly states that the statutory warranty lasts 6 months or 1 year.
- 1 on 10 online stores that provide a commercial guarantee do not mention the name of the guarantor
- The 62,1% of online stores provide a guarantee from the manufacturers of the goods DOA (Dead on Arrival) in contrast with 37,9% which makes no reference to this warranty.
