The first court decision has been issued for the dispute between Epic Games and Apple, which at first seems quite logical for both parties.
Αon the one hand the federal court rejected her request Epic Games to restore it Fortnite in the App Store, however, prevents Apple from excluding the company more generally from its platforms, thus protecting Unreal Engine.
Implementation of the decision begins immediately, therefore, the final decision given by Apple to Epic Games for 28 August 2020 and Unreal Engine remains available to all developers on the iOS and macOS platforms.
It is worth noting that Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers acknowledged that questions were being asked about Apple's policy in the App Store, but did not fail to point out that Epic Games had created the situation on its own, justifying Apple for its claims. Epic Games's lawyers even admitted in court that they knew that integrating their own payment system into Fortnite would be against the App Store regulations.
Both parties have the right to appeal and already the Epic Games has requested a hearing from the court to take greater safeguards for its applications.
It remains to be seen whether Epic Games will eventually withdraw the payment system to bring Fortnite back to the App Store immediately. (and on Google Play) in anticipation of the upcoming new season starting this week.
