A new report from the network Bloomberg argues that the Apple, invests in a new technology in order to offer support for its services and devices via satellite, 5 years from now.
Τ The project is at a very early stage for the time being and it is by no means certain that it will proceed, while it is not clear whether Apple intends to "raise" its own satellites or whether it will take advantage of existing companies of other companies.
At this initial stage, a dozen company engineers are employed, headed by them Michael Trela and John Fenwick, who have previously worked for her Skybox Imaging, a satellite mapping company acquired in 2014 by Google. Both have been hired by Apple in 2017.
If the development of the project proceeds normally, then Apple could significantly improve and enhance its various services, most notably Apple Maps and its location tracking, as well as improve signal and access on the Internet to be more independent of telecommunications providers.
It's too early to draw conclusions, so we will wait for the idea to mature and see if it really goes ahead.
