The well-known camera evaluation website DxOMark announced today that it has designed a performance test specifically for smartphone selfie cameras.

The purpose of this benchmark is to provide consumers with reliable information about the performance of selfie cameras. DxOMark has officially introduced the DxOMark Selfie which follows the same procedures and methods of the DxOMark Mobile test. However, it differs in points to reflect the particular use of the front camera.
In addition, DxOMark has divided the table of mobiles with the best selfie cameras into three rating categories: Overall, Photo and Video.
The mobiles that collected the highest overall score is Google Pixel 3 and Samsung Galaxy 9, with 92 total points. They follow the Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 with 84 points, the iPhone XS Max with 82 points, and the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus with 81 points.
The DxOMark reported that the Google Pixel 3 has better focus, while the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 gives better exposure and color. Google Pixel 3 photos have higher contrast and white balance, while the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 performs better in portraits, making photos look more natural.
Note that the Google Pixel 3 and Samsung Galaxy Note 9 do not provide the same details and noise. The first is the winner in low light and indoor photos, as it delivers great detail but has increased noise.
On the contrary, the Samsung device takes pictures with less noise, but also with less detail. However, it is superior in terms of selfie camera videos as it offers good color performance, more stable shots and excellent facial exposure in all conditions.
Finally, DxOMark stated that it will continue to add test results for all new devices as they are released.
