It has been six years since its release DirectX 12, and now the Microsoft presented the new one DirectX 12 Ultimate API, which promises to significantly improve the quality of games.
Σaccording to Microsoft, the DirectX 12 Ultimate will allow developers to offer games for PC corresponding quality with that of the titles for Xbox Series X, and vice versa.
Improvements in gaming
Graphics cards that support the DXXII Ultimate will be able to take advantage of technologies such as Ray Tracing, Variable Rate Shading, Sampler Feedback and Mesh Shaders.
The DirectX 12 Ultimate brings its support to computers DirectX Ray Tracing 1.1 (DXR 1.1). Thanks to DXR 1.1 the GPUs will be able to process Ray Tracing autonomously without the involvement of the CPU. In addition, the loading capabilities of the shaders will be significantly enhanced.
An important change is the Variable Rate Shading or VRS, with the help of which the developers will be able to control the power of the GPU that will consume their games.
On the other hand, the Mesh Shaders will offer more flexibility and help to take full advantage of the GPU capabilities. Thus, they will create much more detailed worlds.
Concerning the Sample Feedback, according to Microsoft, will offer faster loading times and overall better quality and performance.
Traffic
GPU developers and manufacturers already have the DirectX 12 Ultimate API in their hands. By the end of the year, the first graphics cards that will support the new API will be released, as well as games that will take advantage of the features it offers.
