In the European research project 6G-SANDBOX for designing and building experimental networks and performing tests on 6th generation technologies, participates in COSMOTE
As part of the project, test networks are implemented (trial networks) to Athens (Greece), Berlin (Germany), Malaga (Spain) and Oulu (Finland), which combine digital and physical infrastructures and are fully configurable to offer automated experimentation capabilities across the 6G service supply chain, both at the end-user service level and for network control and management.
Some of the innovative technological solutions that will be tested in the experimental infrastructures are: zero-touch management), the flexible multi-tenancy architecture (multi-tenancy architecture) to simultaneously serve parallel and distinct requirements, network intelligence, security, the digital twins, i.e. the digital "cloning" of a real infrastructure or physical object (e.g. an airplane) to run simulations, artificial intelligence (AI), as well as technologies that rationalize energy consumption.
In addition, a memorandum of cooperation was signed as part of the project (MoU) with the European Space Agency (ESA) for the interconnection of the infrastructures 6G-SANDBOX with the nodes ESA's 5G and 6G (Hubs), aiming to integrate satellites into terrestrial 5G networks and future 6G technologies.
Mr. George Tsonis, Executive Director of Network Planning & Devops of OTE Group, said:
As a project partner, COSMOTE is developing the experimental 6G infrastructure of Athens, operating under the supervision of National Center for Scientific Research (EKEFE) Demokritoss, and participates in defining the technical specifications, describing the architecture, evaluating user requirements and business models, as well as implementing tests for selected use cases. At the same time, it contributes to the dissemination and exploitation of the results of the project.
The project is co-financed by European Commission (EU) through the framework Horizon europe and is under its auspices Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU), which was established by the EU to ensure Europe's leadership in 5G and 6G technologies.
6 organizations participate in the 18G-SANDBOX (Keysight Technologies Belgium, Keysight Technologies Denmark, COSMOTE, National Center for Scientific Research (EKEFE) Demokritos, European Institute for Research and Strategic Studies in Telecommunications (Eurescom), Fraunhofer Institute for Open Communication Systems, Lenovo Deutschland, Nokia Spain, OpenNebula Systems, Boreal Technology & Investments, Fogus Innovations & Services, INFOLYSIS, The Queen's University of Belfast, Telefonica, IS-Wireless, Ictficial OY, the University of Malaga and the University of Oulu) from 8 countries (England, Belgium , Germany, Denmark, Greece, Spain, Poland, and Finland). The project is coordinated by Keysight Technologies Belgium and has a total duration of 3 years.
OTE Group is a pioneer in technological developments and is by far the largest investor in telecommunications infrastructure in Greece. At the moment, he is participating in 40 pioneering research subsidized programs, while in total from 2009 until now he has taken part in more than 100 research projects.
At the same time, the New Technologies Laboratories of the OTE Group evaluate the new technologies and telecommunications equipment of the future. Using technology and innovation as a vehicle, OTE Group makes a better world for everyone.
