Vertical increase in sales of 5G smartphones - These are the protagonists

In the second quarter of 2020, more 5G smartphones were sold than in the whole of 2019.

Αnasa at the market of smartphones, which has been showing signs of fatigue lately, seems to be giving 5G technology and the new smartphones of major manufacturers with the ability to connect to the fifth generation of networks.

Despite the coronavirus pandemic, the Global shipments of 5G smartphones rose to 24,1 million units in the first quarter of the year, number higher than the total of 5G smartphones shipped throughout 2019, according to research firm Strategy Analytics. Last year, global missions smartphone 5G they arrived 18,7 million units.

The positive numbers recorded in the first quarter of the year, "inevitably" will decrease due to the coronavirus pandemic. But the decline will be limited, according to analysts.

The protagonists of the market

Protagonist of this subcategory proves the Samsung while within walking distance is the Chinese Huawei. As Strategy Analytics reports, the missions 5G smartphones of Samsung in the first quarter of 2020 the 8,3 million. with the South Korean company's market share estimated at 34,4% of the market. Samsung topped the list by almost one percentage point with its main competitor, the Chinese Huawei which gained market share 33,2 to 8 million shipments. As for the most popular 5G models of the South Korean company was the S20 5G and the S20 Ultra 5G.

In the third place of the top five was the Vivo gathering it 12% of the market while in Wednesday and Thursday position were found respectively the Xiaomi and Oppo accumulating share 10,4% and 5%. The others manufacturers amassed a share of its order 5%.

It is worth noting that Chinese manufacturers are leading the smartphone market after the Huawei and its domestic rivals, Vivo, Xiaomi and Oppo, together represent the lion's share of 5G smartphones - 14,6 million smartphones - for the first quarter of the year.

This is partly due to the exceptional momentum shown by the Chinese market which continued despite the lockdown that slowed down the Chinese economy in the first quarter of 2020. Indicative of its size penetration of 5G in China are also the results of its largest provider, its China Mobile, which at the end of March had 31,72 million 5G customers, to 29,22 million to have been added in the first quarter of the year.

According to Chinese Institute of Information and Communication Technology (CICTI) From January to April, 30,4 million 5G phones were shipped and 65 new 5G models were launched in China. These represent 33,6% of all phones shipped and 47,4% of the new models released. This means that almost half of the phones released in China were 5G. April was not the best month, as 40,8 million phones were sent, an increase of 14% compared to April 2019 of which 16 million or almost 40% were 5G smartphones. According to CICTI, 22 new models were released in the market in April, representing 45,8% of the new smartphones released during the same period.

Recall that analyst estimates before the coronavirus pandemic showed that Sales of smartphones supporting fifth-generation networks will increase eightfold by 2021. Starting in 2020, the 5th generation of mobile communications will revive sales of "smart" mobile phones, analysts typically noted at the beginning of the year, estimating that the market for 5G mobile phones will reach the level of 231 million devices. In fact, this increase is expected to de-escalate the rather high prices of these smartphones, which will be sold between 700 and 800 dollars within the next two years.
