Apple iOS 14: These are the 10 features that were "borrowed" from Android!

The latest version of their software iPhone Apple iOS 14 is now official in all its glory.

Η Apple has introduced the new version of the operating system at WWDC 2020, with many new features and several design changes. Among its most notable new features iOS 14 included among others, the Picture-in-Picture, Home Screen Widgets, App Library, App Clips and App Permission in the App Store.

While Apple has uniquely introduced these new features as revolutionary and groundbreaking, the truth is that most of them have been part of Android for quite some time. Let's take a look at 10 features included in iOS 14 that have been copied from Android.

1. Widgets

Widgets are the biggest change to the iOS home screen in many years. Apple has added the ability to add widgets to the home screen, with iOS 14. While this feature is new to iPhones, it has been on Android almost since its inception.

However, Apple has not added this feature as it found it from Android. The Cupertino-based company has added a new "Smart Stack" widget feature that automatically displays different application widgets based on time of day.

2. Translate App

The Translate app is another Android feature copied by Apple for iOS 14. The app, as its name suggests, translates foreign languages that are difficult for you to understand. Additionally, the Translate App can read the messages you receive and display the translated text on your screen, just like Google Translate. The only notable difference between the two is that Google Translate supports over 100 languages, while Apple Translate is making its debut in just 11 languages.

3. PiP (Picture-in-Picture)

Picture-in-Picture (PiP) is a fairly easy-to-use feature that allows you to do various tasks while watching a video. The feature minimizes video in a smaller window, which then appears on top of other applications or on the Home screen. This feature has been available on Android since 2017, but Apple has reached 2020 and iOS 14 to offer PiP functionality to iPhone users. The company from Cupertino further enhances the experience by allowing you to resize the video or collapse it to the side of the screen to keep it playing in the background, as in macOS. PiP on Apple iOS 14 also works even when you make FaceTime calls.

4. Call notifications

Not that it didn't have call alerts, but now Apple has condensed the size of the windows with notifications in iOS 14, like Android. Users will receive notifications for phone and FaceTime calls with a new less annoying pop-up, instead of taking up the entire screen.

5. Ability to pre-select third-party applications

Apple has finally enabled users to set third-party applications as default by iOS 14. Allows users to set default applications for email and browsers of their choice. The company tacitly announced this feature during the WWDC 2020 presentation and not explicitly. Once again, this is a feature that has been copied from Android.

6. New Siri design

Siri also has a new look. Apple has redesigned its AI digital assistant with its presence at the bottom of the screen with a moving icon instead of taking up the entire screen. This feature is also inspired by Android. Google on Android phones also appears with a small gesture at the bottom of the screen in the current application or on the website when activated.

7. App Library

The iOS 14 Application Library, which automatically organizes applications into groups or lists and hides them on the Home screen, is similar to the Android Application Drawer. However, it comes with some additional smart grouping features, such as automatically saving all Apple Arcade games to a folder.

8. Cycling option in Apple Maps

Apple Maps has also been upgraded to iOS 14. The company has added a number of new features, such as sophisticated driver support and EV Routing, that will guide you to nearby compatible stations based on charging status. of your car. In addition, Apple has added a new "Cycling" feature to its Maps that takes into account uphills, cycling routes, stairs and busy roads. This feature first appeared on Google Maps, which is pre-installed on Android devices.

9. App clips

As with Android smartphones, iPhone users will now be able to use a lightweight version of iOS apps on their phone without having to install them. This is possible through the App Clips in iOS 14 reminiscent of Google Play Instant, which was released in 2018.

10. App licenses in the App Store

The App Store will also have another Android-like experience with iOS 14. The App Store will now show which licenses an app you want to install on your phone uses.
