Η Apple, announced the new App Store Small Business program, an initiative that reduces charges from 30% to just 15% for selected smaller developers.
Τthe program is offered only to developers who make less than $ 1 million a year from combined in-app revenue and in-app purchases.
Companies and developers making more than $ 1 million still have to pay Apple the standard 30% cut. The new policy will enter into force on January 1, 2021 and dedicated developers will be judged on their revenue from 2020.
Independent game developers (Indie) will benefit from the new terms. As revealed by intense legal battle between Epic Games and Apple, countless freelance developers lose substantial money by hosting their games on App Store.
The alternative, removing the game from a market of more than 1 billion users, is a more difficult decision. So, indie devs retain their titles in the App Store in hopes of increased sales. With a reduced charge of 15%, these developers keep more of their profits and theoretically can no longer suffocate so much.
Ο CEO Apple, Tim Cook, stated in this regard:
The App Store has been an engine of economic growth like no other, creating millions of new jobs and a path to entrepreneurship, accessible to anyone with a great idea. Our new program continues to make progress by helping developers fund their small businesses, take risks on new ideas, expand their teams, and continue to create applications that enrich people's lives.
