Android Q: See what's new in the first beta available!

As we've been waiting for a few days now, Google has launched the beta release for the next big version of the Android operating system, which is currently called Android Q.

Η beta version is only available for the company's Pixel smartphones and specifically for the Pixel, Pixel 2 and Pixel 3 series.

The main new features that Android Q brings at the moment are the following:

• OnResume and OnPause to continue or pause multiple applications (in multitasking situations) when not in the foreground, something that can be especially useful in the category of foldable smartphones
• Greater control of access to the device site, as you can choose for each application individually whether to access this information always or never or only when using it in the foreground.
• Greater control over applications' access to device files, such as photos, videos, and recordings, by re-licensing each time you choose to use an application.
• Developers can display system settings menus within their applications thanks to the new Settings Panel API. For example, through the Chrome browser you can enable WiFi, Airplane mode or data without having to go to the settings menu.
• Support for AV1 video codec and dynamic depth images in JPEG and XMP formats for depth information (eg blur and other effects)
• Improved performance of the Volkan 3D graphics API and new v1.2 version of the Neural Networks API.
• New Sharing Shortcuts feature for easy switching from one application to another when sharing content.
• New WiFi modes that will optimize the performance of specific processes, such as gaming. For example, users can enable "low latency mode".

Note that this is the first beta of the 6 that will be released by Google in the coming months. It is possible that some of the new features will not be released in the final version, while we are definitely waiting to see other features.
