Caution: Do not download this application because it will lock your device demanding ransom!

Pay close attention to this article so that you do not fall victim to an application that will lock your device and ask for ransom.

ΤAt a time when almost everyone is paralyzed by the COVID-19 pandemic, there are some criminal fraudsters trying to take advantage of the panic and confusion of the world in order to speculate on the exorbitant rise in prices for health products related to the virus (masks - disinfectants, etc.), and in this cage of subhumans we now have those who try to steal information and block your smartphone to demand ransom for its release.

A seemingly useful Android app has emerged that claims to show the spread of coronavirus in your area, and what it does once you install it is lock your device with a password, and require a ransom to unlock your phones.

The so-called ovom ransomware CovidLock takes advantage of a security flaw and creates a special screen lock code that the user can not guess on their own.

This malicious application claims that all COVID-19 incidents are near you and in the area where you are moving, and is not available in the Google Play Store. Instead, this application is hosted on a page with a coronavirusapp address [.] From which you should download it.

DO NOT download any foreign applications outside the Play Store at this time.
The name of the dangerous application is Coronavirus Tracker

The new ransomware attacks the screen lock of the device where it is installed, forcing it to change the password required to unlock the phone, explains Tarik Saleh, senior security engineer and malware researcher at DomainTools blog post. For Android Nougat and later devices, the attack only works if the user has never bothered to set a lock screen password. However, older devices are much more vulnerable to the threat.

Once a phone is infected by the coronavirus "logger", the unlucky users are required to pay $ 100 in bitcoin within 48 hours, in order to be given the code and get rid of the application. Remaining true to their methods, the attackers also threaten the victims that they will use their personal data, such as photos, videos, social media accounts, etc., while also claiming that they have the GPS position of the phone and that they can use it from distance the infected phone.

UPDATED: According to Reddit user luca020400, the password that the app adds to the phones is the same for everything and is “4865083501"But we can not confirm whether this is really the case.

We repeat: To protect yourself, do not download applications outside the Play Store and do not visit unknown pages that have a coronavirus theme.
