A vulnerability located on the Wi-Fi chip, 1 billion smartphones could make a number of devices vulnerable to hackers.
Σaccording to ESET who discovered this problem, skilled hackers can decrypt data, even if they were sent with a specific encryption.
The problem is the chips made by Cypress Semiconductor and Broadcom and it is essentially a vulnerability that affects security protocols WPA2 (in personal and enterprise format).
Apart from smartphones the problem also concerns other devices, such as routers and IoT devices. As you can see the list of models that can be affected is real huge (including almost several well-known manufacturers).
Its staff ESET named this vulnerability kr00k and the good news is that most construction companies have already set up patches and updates in the operating system of their devices that correct the problem. The point of course is that a large number of users can be defenseless and this because there will be many who will not have proceeded to Update.
According to data released by ESET, a hacker may "force" the disconnection of a Wi-Fi connection from one device, so it can send date via the mobile network. This way a hacker can break the encryption and thus decrypt the sensitive data that each user on his device.
