ΑReports of Huawei cheating on its comparative results surfaced earlier this week. Anandtech spoke to an employee of the company, who admitted the violation and now the manufacturer is already facing repercussions.
UL, the company behind Benchmark 3DMark, has just announced that four Huawei smartphones are being withdrawn after confirming a breach of their rules.
These mobiles are Huawei P20 Pro, Huawei nova 3, Huawei Honor Play and Huawei P20 .
According to UL, the first three phones were tested with both the public version of 3DMark, which is freely available on Google Play, and a private version that is not available to manufacturers. The results of the public implementation are on average over 40% higher than the normal results. The Huawei P20 was added to the list later, following the revelation of the "scandal" the next day.
The company said that the public 3DMark is recognized and activated by Huawei devices a hidden "performance function", which overrides the usual profile, thus changing the results. The difference in scores comes simply from the recognition of the application name by the phone and the falsification of the results.
Huawei contacted UL and promised to make changes. Huawei stated that “plans to give users access to the performance function so that they can use the maximum power of their device when they need it".
