The CEO of HUAWEI, Richard Yu, announced today the HarmonyOS 2.0 on HUAWEI Developer Conference 2020 held at Songshan Lake in China.
Τthe new HarmonyOS 2.0 brings many changes to almost all software code, including data management, security, and UX Framework allowing developers to instantly reach tens of millions of new devices and users.
With the latest update, the HarmonyOS will now be officially open source software, and developers will be able to access emulators, SDK packages and IDE tools.
All this Open Source Project is available at China Open Atomic Open Source Foundation, and will start gradually with a mobile version (HarmonyOS beta) first designed for Chinese developers in late 2020.
As of today, September 10, the HarmonyOS 2.0 beta will be available for smart TVs, smart watches, while from December 2020 it will be available for developers and the SDK, documentation, toolbox and simulator for smartphones. The HUAWEI confirmed that we will see the first smartphones based on HarmonyOS sometime later this year.

In just one year, the open source capabilities for HMS Core 5.0 increased from 14 kits to 56 kits, while the number of APIs increased from 885 to 12.981, covering seven key areas and helping developers innovate and simplify their application development process, HUAWEI said.
With the support of more than 1,8 million registered developers worldwide, the HMS (HUAWEI Mobile Services) has rapidly evolved into the third largest ecosystem of mobile applications in the world, within a year. The Huawei AppGallery, currently has more than 96.000 applications built into HMS Core and more than 490 million active users worldwide.
In addition, it also achieved a new record of 261 billion downloads and distributions in applications, between January and August 2020.
