It seems that the next step in the design of Selfie cameras will be the in-display camera. Some manufacturers have already filed their own patent, and it is Xiaomi's turn to submit its own proposal.
A diagram of the patent filed by Xiaomi has appeared on the internet and shows a device with an in-display camera. The patent filed in November 2018 shows that there is a camera behind the screen as well as a light sensor.
The translation of the patent description states that there is a sub-screen below the main screen. The light sensor works with both screens so that the camera can be seen when needed, and remain invisible when not in use.
There are rumors that in-display cameras may be the new design trend of smartphones from now on, and we may see their first implementations by the manufacturers, in the second half of the year or from next year in latest.
A few weeks ago, it was reported that OPPO was preparing to introduce a Smartphone with this kind of design later this year, and may be the pioneer of this new design.
