New directives from the European Union force Xiaomi, like other manufacturers of SmartPhones, to disable the use of Band 1 in WiFi (Hot Spot).
Following the announcement made on the Xiaomi forum, it is clarified that:
"5GHz Wi-Fi bands (band 1) will no longer be supported on our products in the following countries and regions due to EU restrictions on the internal use of 5GHz Band 1 bands in EU countries, and in some areas that recognize the label CE. ”
So from now on in the next updates of the ROMs of the devices, the possibility of connecting channels in BAND 1 will be deactivated in the following channels.
Band 1 channels: 5150MHz ~ 5250MHz, CH36, CH40, CH44, CH48.
The main reason for the above directive is the interference that WiFi devices that operate in Band 1 of WiFi create in the equipment of the meteorological services, but even in the meteorological radars of the aircraft.
The following countries are affected by this decision - Directive…
1. The 27 Member States of the European Union:
Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden.
2. Countries and regions that follow and recognize CE marking:
Egypt, Hong Kong SAR (China), Singapore, Turkey, Ukraine.
So if at some point you do not have WiFi reception on the channels CH36, CH40, CH44, CH48, do not think that your device has suffered anything. Just change the WiFi settings to other channels that are not in the list above, and you will be fine.
WiFi is not completely turned off at 5Ghz, but Band 1 channels are turned off.
