Αhad to stop the Windows PCs upgrade process and withdraw the Windows 10 October 2018 Update, Microsoft investigated in depth the issues that arose for some users regarding the deletion of their files and officially stated that it has managed to find a solution to the problem, while relaunching the update initially for those involved in Windows Insiders.
The company recognizes that under certain circumstances the bug found led to the deletion of predefined user folders, such as Documents and Images, when the KFR (Known Folder Redirection) function was active at the same time. This feature allows users to change the location of predefined folders in Windows 10 so that they can be transferred to other hard drives, for example. To be affected by the bug, however, they should have kept the original old versions of these predefined folders and files in their classic locations.
As Microsoft points out in its official blog, the users who had a problem deleting their files from the Windows 10 October 2018 Update correspond to only 0.0001% of those who proceeded to install it. However, as mentioned above, the relaunch is initially done again only for Windows Insiders and then the general re-launch will be done for all users.
