Η Rakuten Viber, one of the world's leading companies in personal and secure messaging and voice communication, is expanding operations into digital transactions, through a digital wallet now available on Viber app

Η new function will allow its users Viber easily send money to each other and create a digital wallet where they will store money – initially Euro. It will later evolve to include various currencies, while more services will also be available soon.

Η Rakuten Viber enters the global digital payments market through its hundreds of millions of users and strong reputation for security that is a key component of their personal communications, thanks to the default end-to-end encryption. The McKinsey estimates that the global payments market, including overseas remittances, local transactions and credit card payments, will reach 2,5 trillion. dollars by 2025.

Viber payments will initially start in the markets of Greece and Germany and will gradually reach other countries in the near future. Viber is installed on 91% of smartphones in Greece and according to the German one Stiftung Warentest is one of the most secure messaging apps.

Adding money to the Viber Pay digital wallet will be possible through all cards Mastercard and Visa, but also of the local banks in Germany and Greece. To offer licensed payment services in the first two markets, Viber partnered with fast, an international company Fintech-as-a-Service. The fast will integrate licensed transaction services directly into the Viber app to enhance the app's payment capabilities. By limiting availability by country, Viber users will have access to a wide variety of additional financial services, including:

● Viber Wallet to Viber Wallet payments for domestic or international transactions in Euro, with plans to add more currencies soon.
● Bank transfers for easy payment of everyday expenses such as utility bills.
● Exclusive discounts and rewards from local partners.

To start using payments at Viber, users must set a personal identification code or biometric identification that will ensure the activation of secure transactions. Payment confirmations are automatically sent with end-to-end encryption, like all private Viber communications. So that there is no question, the Viber support team will be available to answer questions in local languages.

The addition of a seamless payment solution thanks to an in-app wallet provided by licensed financial partners, along with other features to be introduced soon, is a natural progression that elevates Rakuten Viber into a stand-alone super-app. As of 2019, Viber users have made millions of payment transactions peer-to-peer in more than ten markets thanks to various integrated services from third parties through chatbots and chat extensions.

Viber users in Germany and Greece have access to Viber's payment features before its official launch by joining the waiting list HERE.

More coins and features will be added as the Rakuten Viber will launch transactions in more countries, including coupons and cashback rewards from participating merchant partners.
