Research: The first to embrace 5G are those who support conspiracy theories

There are many who believe that 5G technology causes cancer and autism, destroys trees and kills birds, is used for brainwashing, espionage and disease transmission.

ΚFrom time to time we have all read funny conspiracy theories on the internet. In recent years, unfounded conspiracy theories about 5G technology are in the spotlight, although there are several others with similar themes that could be the first. One such example is its use Starlink by Elon Musk to conquer the world.

Of course, with these theories while we should be joking, sometimes things take a different turn. Let us recall here the bomb attack held a year ago at Nashville of his state Tennessee, with the bomber claiming that 5G technology killed his father.

The site InMyArea.com, which helps its users get in touch with local TV and internet channel providers, commissioned its research team to conduct a survey involving 991 people, to see how many of them adopt conspiracy theories around 5G technology.

You can observe the main results in the graph above with the measurements presented by category of theory. What stands out and is at the top of the theories that respondents have heard even once, is that 5G causes cancer.

Not coincidentally, new technologies have always frightened crowds, especially when they involve the use of radiation. The most annoying thing is that 10% believe it to be true.

The percentages of the conspiracy theories that follow are decreasing but the worrying thing is that the numbers of those who believe them are growing. From 35% 13% of those who have heard that China uses this technology for espionage believe it. Almost those who believe that the Bill Gates does brainwashing in humans. From 29% who have heard that 5G technology is harmful to birds and kills it 19% believes that it is valid. Also, a quarter of the 10% of people surveyed take the view that 5G destroys trees.

The report points out that two out of three participants heard the first 5G conspiracy theory in the last year, with the internet being the main source of transmission and friends and relatives following. Men with conservative views are usually more gullible than women in the respective political space, which space is more receptive to these theories than other ideologies.

In this study, participants were generally asked about conspiracy theories that have been rampant in recent decades, such as "false landing on the moon”(65% have heard it, 8% believe it), the recordings made by its applications iPhone against our will (60% have heard it, 46% embrace it) and that the Big Oil (the seven largest oil and gas companies) are trying to sabotage the electric vehicle industry (39% know it and 8% believe it).

Only 30% of respondents have made the switch to a 5G network. Seven out of ten who have not done so, believe they will do so within the next twelve months.

The strangest thing of all is that 40% users who believe in specific conspiracy theories are already making use of it 5G technology.
