Samsung smart TVs receive iTunes and AirPlay 2 support

Εhere is something one might not have expected. The production smart TVs Samsung 2018 and 2019 receive iTunes and support for AirPlay 2. Samsung today confirmed that it will offer iTunes Movies and TV Shows as well as AirPlay 2 support for all 2019 models starting in the spring. Later it will provide support for the 2018 models of smart TVs, through a firmware upgrade (Firmware).

This is a big deal. The app will be available exclusively for all Samsung smart TVs in more than 100 countries. In addition, support for AirPlay 2 will be available for all of the above models in 190 countries.

ITunes and AirPlay 2 support Samsung smart TVs

You will surely ask why this is such a big event. This is the first time Apple has opened access to its iTunes video library on third-party devices, with the sole exception of Windows PCs. Even more surprising is the fact that Apple decided to make this "collaboration" with Samsung, as the two companies are considered to be the toughest rivals in the market.

The app will allow Samsung Smart TV users to access their existing iTunes library. They will also be able to browse the store and buy or rent securities. AirPlay 2 will allow users to play videos, music, podcasts and more from Apple devices such as the iPhone on Samsung TVs.

Maybe in the end it makes sense for Apple to choose Samsung for this partnership, as Apple does not produce TVs, and therefore Samsung is not a direct competitor in this market. Regardless of those who believe that these two companies will always be on the "knives", Apple and Samsung have maintained a good working relationship for a long time. Let's not forget that Samsung continues to supply vital components for the production of Apple Smartphone , the iPhone.

Samsung owns important position in the premium TV market, to be eligible for cooperation with Apple. With an online video streaming service expected to launch later this year, this indicates that Apple may also be releasing this app to other platforms, other companies in the coming months, and why not even Xiaomi.
