Η Samsung announced today the new camera sensor in 50MP, called ISOCELL GN2.
Αthis new sensor is a continuation of it GN1 released last year and comes with bigger pixels, better power consumption and brand new technology PDAF called Dual Pixel Pro.
The size of the new sensor ISOCELL GN2 is on 1/1,12 ", which is the largest we have seen so far on a smartphone and has a pixel size of 1,4μm which ensures extremely detailed photos in normal settings. Quality photos in a low light environment are "captured" with the well-known technology of the four pixel-binning, simulating a larger pixel size that reaches 2,8μm.
The new sensor also offers the ability to take photos at 100MP by rearranging color pixels using a "smart re-mosaic algorithm", As she is called by Samsung. In fact, the photos of 100 MP are divided into three levels of 50 MP in green, blue and red Pixels, and then these Pixels are overlapped, upgraded and merged to produce the final high resolution photo.
The new sensor is also the first from Samsung to bring the new technology Dual Pixel Pro - the most advanced solution PDAF the company's. Instead of splitting all the red, green and blue pixels vertically (Pixel), this time the green pixels are split diagonally so that the top and bottom can "read" the phase differences, as well as the left and right the right side.
The result of using this technology should be fast and accurate autofocus in difficult conditions, such as in a low light environment or when an object is moving fast. It also means the new sensor ISOCELL GN2 and all future cameras that will have the technology Dual Pixel Pro, will get an even faster lock in focus.
In its other specifications ISOCELL GN2 Samsung are also included Smart ISO Pro to create instant images HDR, but also the video recording in 1080p @ 480 fps or at 4K @ 120 fps. The company confirmed that the new sensor is already in mass production.
