Η Russia re-examines what it means "forced laborFor the detainees now that the country is facing a severe shortage of human resources with IT skills.

Η waging war on Ukraine and the ensuing sanctions resulted in many skilled workers leaving Russia en masse, forcing local businesses to seek replacements. With tens of thousands of vacancies in the IT sector, Russian prisoners have begun to be seen as a new source of potential talent in the field.

Such as reports KrebsonSecurity in a postLate last month, the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service announced that it was considering using detainees to work remotely in the IT sector at commercial Russian companies. According to Alexander Khabarov, who is the deputy head of Russia's penitentiary service, the idea was suggested by several businessmen who are willing in any way to find the staff they need.

At the moment it is believed that there are about 95.000 jobs requiring IT skills in Russia that can not be covered. The reason; Many IT professionals are leaving the country. THE Russian Electronic Communications Union (RAEC) estimates that at least 100.000 people have resorted to finding new jobs abroad, with destinations such as USA, Germany, Georgia, Cyprus and Canada.

According to the BBC, the prison population in the country amounts to 874.161 people. However, it remains unknown how many of them have IT skills, but if 1 in 10 has the required IT knowledge, then there is a chance that many of the vacancies will be filled, and this will probably result in many of the detainees being satisfied. .

Businesses will also be pleased with such a move if one considers that Russian prisoners sentenced to forced labor only earn 266 euro per month.
