Will the Kirin 990 be based on TSMC's 7nm architecture with a built-in 5G modem?

ΜHuawei's Kirin 980 may have been introduced at the end of August, but it seems that there are already reports of the Kirin 990 along with the features it will incorporate.

According to sources in China, Huawei has already started designing and developing its next high-end processor, with the Kirin 990 also based on the 7nm architecture of the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturer Company (TSMC) and is still expected to provide higher performance in all areas.

The investment for research and development of the HiSilicon Kirin 990 is expected to exceed 25 million euros, amounts which are huge and show Huawei's intention to go one step further and not waste time in the development of its next flagships for 2019. .

As we have seen, the Kirin 980 was one of the first chipsets based on the 7nm architecture with Cortex-A76 cores. The Kirin 990 will be based on the same architecture but will have a built-in Balong 5000 modem that will allow smartphones that use it to connect to 5G networks.

Finally, the information may indicate that research and development of the Kirin 990 has already begun, but its production is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2019, with more information becoming known in due course.
