After a long trial period, the Netflix now suppresses password sharing on USA, and soon other countries will follow
That's it Netflix, for about a year now, has taken very seriously one of the issues it sees as significantly hurting the streaming platform's revenue, the shared passwords. So the company decided to end the practice of its subscribers sharing their password with other people outside the household.
After a long trial period, the Netflix now suppresses password sharing on USA. Users who share their passwords will receive an email from the platform attributing this practice to them and clarifying that they are only allowed to share an account with members of the same physical household.
The company gives two options: or the export of a user profile to a new, independent paid account or the payment $ 8 per month for adding a “extra membership” in the account. Additional members can continue to watch while outside the main household but are limited to streaming to one device at a time and can only use one device to store received media.
This option is also only available on fully paid plans and is not supported on ad-supported plans. Not even their core program $ 10 not included as it is limited to a single stream.
The Netflix claims that its users have not largely left, angered by the changes, instead it has reported an increase in subscribers in some markets where the crackdown has already begun.
