Netflix : Don't get excited about the price cut, as you're unlikely to take advantage of it

In recent years, the Netflix is mostly in the news headlines for the wrong reasons, as the company apparently continues to lose subscribers every month

After the price increases on January of 2019 and October of 2020, the streaming service raised its prices again on USA and Canada in January 2022, and then the company decided to start cracking down on password sharing.

Unsurprisingly, these moves caused Netflix to lose subscribers, and now, in order to stem its declining user base, the streaming company has announced the reduce subscription fees up to 60%, but don't be wringing your hands as it's probably unlikely that you'll be able to take advantage of this price cut.

In the last week, Netflix has reduced its subscription fees in more than 100 territories. Ampere Analysis claims that the subscription fee reduction is between 20 and 60% depending on the region, while in some markets, the price of the cheapest service it provides remains unchanged.

The lower price is mostly limited to markets where Netflix is still trying to gain a new customer base, and that list includes markets like IJordan, Thailand, Bulgaria, Malaysia, Indonesia, Yemen, Bosnia, Zimbabwe and others.

So all in all, the discounted Netflix subscription price is estimated to barely benefit 10 million subscribers in those regions we mentioned above, while Netflix's streaming service has over 200 million subscribers worldwide, so the lower prices will only benefit the 5% of its total user base. This move will negatively impact average revenue per user (ARPU) of Netflix, but should be able to offset the lower revenue by growing the user base it seeks to acquire.

Be careful though, as Netflix's price cut in developing markets it is not going to affect the suppression of password sharing. At the beginning February 2023, The company detailed account sharing restrictions and extended the application of this new policy to Canada, New Zealand, Portugal and Spain.

These restrictions will be rolled out to more markets in the coming months, and you may then be forced to consider switching to the ad-supported bundle or canceling your Netflix subscription altogether if the new password-sharing rules are too restrictive for you.
