ΑMany questions and requests from Alexa users were left at Christmas Amazon, as the device crashed.
Amazon devices with artificial intelligence, which incorporate the "smart" voice of Alexa, were among the best sellers of this year's festive season in European markets, according to the American company, especially the "smart" speakers Echo and Echo Dot.
However, the addition of many new users who for the first time set up and almost simultaneously tried to chat with Alexa in Christmas, overloaded Amazon's servers, causing Alexa to "crash" and according to the Guardian to give some users not so smart answers such as "forgive me, I have trouble understanding you right now".
Amazon has advertised that Alexa, thanks to a new holiday-specific upgrade, can sing carols, tell Christmas stories, give Christmas recipes and answer if it believes in Santa Claus.
But some users could not hear Christmas carols when they gave the order to Alexa, nor could they hear any recipe they wanted for Christmas dinner. As one Twitter user commented "a very nice day for Alexa to collapse!"
Η Alexa sends voice commands - which users give via an Echo speaker or other "smart" device - to Amazon servers, which take over each message and respond accordingly. So Alexa on the user's device can answer a question, turn on or off the lights in the house (as long as it is "smart"), play the desired music or whatever.
The company acknowledged that there was a problem, which was limited to Europe, but assured that it was resolved after a few hours. However, no details were given about the cause of the problem or how it was corrected according to the APE-MPE.
However, this is not the first time Alexa has encountered customer service issues, as similar interruptions occurred in March and September.
Europe is an ever-rising market for Amazon, which this summer launched its smart speakers with Alexa in Italy and Spain, followed by Britain, Germany and Ireland.
