ΟThe Japanese are leading the way once again, as the first broadcast of a TV program in 4K and 8K resolution via satellite. After two years of testing, the NHKmanaged to broadcast the film 2001: A Space Odyssey in 8K resolution and 22.2 channel audio, thanks to the help of Warner Bros. which processed the original 70mm negatives exclusively for this transmission.
Obviously, we are at a very early stage to say that the era of 8K is beginning - 4K has not spread on TV here - but it is a very important first step that will surely push other TV networks to attempt similar broadcasts. It is not excluded during it CES 2019 to have more developments on this issue, while we remind you that Japan has set a goal to broadcast the 2020 Olympic Games in 8K resolution.
The question is who will have a suitable TV to watch content in 8K resolution.
